Baby Boomers (people born between the years of 1946 and 1964) are currently the second largest population in the US, only behind Millennials. For Social Security disability firms in particular, it’s likely that Baby Boomers make up a large proportion of your clients. Here are some ways your firm can make sure that you’re reaching your audience and addressing the needs of potential claimants.

Make Sure Your Website (and Firm) is User-Friendly

Older populations are more likely to have vision problems, especially when trying to navigate online. It is vitally important that your website is accessible for people of all ages. This means staying away from small or cramped font online, making sure it’s easy for someone to find your phone number or email address, and having popular pages like “Contact Us” or “About Us” be easy to find. Additionally, be sure to use alt text to ensure that people who are blind or severely visually impaired can still understand your entire website.

Accessibility will be important in your office as well. Be sure that your office has some kind of ramp or elevator available for people with mobility difficulty. Having your intake staff speak to claimants in a clear, loud voice will also go a long way in ensuring that your firm can help an older population that may have a higher instance of hearing loss.

Baby Boomers May Not be as Tech-Savvy as You

While it’s apparent to most of us that the paper industry is falling to the wayside, Baby Boomers may not be as fond as electronics as your firm is. They may want you to rely entirely on snail mail to send and return retainer packages.

Our case management software eLuminate can significantly decrease the time you spend signing new clients. If you use eGeneration’s lead generation services, you will have access to eliminate for free. If you receive an obstinate lead, consider discussing the advantages of electronically signing documents with eLuminate to expedite the process of filing a claim. If a client absolutely refuses to sign anything electronically, you can always use eLuminate to quickly generate and auto populate your client’s documents and send them via the post.

Respect is Key

The Baby Boomers are a population that demands respect. You may need to put more time into educating these clients than your younger ones. When you initially speak with your lead, be sure to thoroughly go over the complete process, from applying, to the potential for a denial, to how you’ll be paid. It’s unlikely that your client has ever file a claim for Social Security disability or workers’ compensation before, so he or she may be confused, or have wildly unrealistic expectations for the process. Acting respectful and courteous of your client’s time will go a long way in encouraging a Baby Boomer to work with your firm.

Increasing Your Pending Cases
