According to Statista, Twitter has nearly 330 million users in the first quarter of 2017. This means that chances are good that a lot of potential claimants are on social media. While it may initially sound like a stretch, Twitter is an excellent way for attorneys to connect with new clients and become well known in their legal communities. Here are some of the best ways you can network on Twitter.

Search for Potential Claimants

Twitter has a unique Advanced Search that allows you to drill down exactly which users you want to find. With Twitter’s Advanced Search, you’ll be able to specify users that use specific phrases, hashtags, and are even located near your home city. That way, you know you’ll be connecting with claimants near by. This is great for personal injury or workers’ compensation attorneys who are only licensed to practice law in one state.

Advertise on Twitter

There are a few ways you can advertise on Twitter, and price will vary depending on which ad type you select and how many people see your posts/account. Here are some different types of advertising you might want to try, and how they might be beneficial to your firm:

  • Promote your account. This allows your account to consistently show up on a user’s profile as one to follow. This is a great way to build your firm’s name as a reputable legal option in the area for future clients, but not ones who are necessarily looking for an attorney today.
  • Promote a trend. This is likely not a good option for law firm, but if you’re so inclined, you can pay for a trending hashtag to show up on some users’ accounts.
  • Promote a tweet. If you publish one tweet about your legal services and how someone can connect with your firm, you can get that single tweet to appear on more consumers’ feeds. This is particularly useful when offering consumers a “discount” or good deal. Speaking of good deals…

Give “Special Offers” on Twitter

While attorneys shouldn’t give out “50% off legal services” or anything along those lines on Twitter, you can create your tweets to appear to be an excellent, exclusive deal. For example, any attorney can offer a free consultation, even those who work on a contingency-fee basis.

Attorneys who work on contingency can also promote tweets that say the claimant only pays if he or she wins. While this “deal” is by no means exclusive to Twitter users, it could make social media users believe they’re experiencing a great deal and prompt them to contact your firm.

Is Twitter Enough?

Many attorneys should be able to get a decent amount of new clients from social media, but is it enough to get your firm running to full capacity? Social Security disability attorneys may find that social media isn’t as successful in particular, as older applicants may not want to seek legal help on Twitter.
