Many Social Security attorneys try to avoid SSI cases because the claims can be more challenging to win due to financial reasons, and settlements may be lower than SSDI claims. But there are actually a variety of reasons why your firm should take SSI cases. Here are just a handful of reasons why SSI cases can be very profitable for your firm.

Back Pay Entitlement is Quicker

Unlike SSDI beneficiaries, there is no required five-month waiting period for SSI recipients. This means that if the SSA dawdles with an SSI applicant’s claim, he or she could be entitled to many more months of back pay.

This means that if an SSI claimant reaches out to your firm just a couple of months after applying, you could immediately be entitled to back pay without the claim ever getting denied. This may not be the case for SSDI applicants. While the cases may not see the same windfall SSDI cases do, they’ll allow your firm to turn a quick profit instead of waiting years to see winnings from a claim.

The Blue Book is More Lenient for Children

While grid rules are not favorable for anyone under age 50, the Blue Book is written in a way that’s lenient for children. A significant portion of children are disqualified from SSI benefits after turning 18 because their condition no longer meets a Blue Book listing.

For example, the Blue Book listing for heart failure is wildly different for children when compared to adults. A child would simply need to prove that she has a high heart rate for her age (EX: 130 bpm for a 3 year old), or have a low height/weight ratio for her age. Adults would need a wealth of medical evidence to qualify, including medical evidence of how much blood their hearts pumps, how thick the lining of the heart is, how the symptoms limit them from working, separate episodes of acute heart failure requiring hospitalization, and more.

While financial qualifications may not be on your side, children from lower-income homes should have a much easier time medically qualifying than adults.

Nearly 10 Million People Receive SSI

According to the SSA’s yearly report on SSI, more than 9 million people in the US receive SSI benefits. This is up by over 1 million recipients in the past decade. The number of SSI recipients is very near its all-time high. Additionally, 48 billion dollars in SSI payments were sent out in 2015, meaning there are not only a lot of claimants receiving SSI, but there’s a lot of profitability available to your firm.

You Never Know a Case ‘Till You Call

If you receive an online inquiry or Social Security lead that’s from an applicant under age 18, or seems to be an adult SSI claimant, you should never immediately dismiss the claim. The average claimants spend just a couple of minutes on our lead generation websites, which does not give them enough time to fill out a thorough description of his or her case, nor does it allow an applicant to learn enough about the Social Security application process to know what’s important to include in their free evaluation.

By calling every SSI claimant who reaches out to you, you’ll ensure you’re not letting any sure-fire wins slip through the cracks. To discuss our Social Security disability lead availability in your area, give eGeneration a call today at 617.800.0089.
