Just 5 years ago, Bill Gates presented at TED talk on how every country used to be afraid of the potential of a nuclear war and made preparations in the event. As tensions decrease and the threat of a nuclear war diminished, Gates brings up how we are not ready in the case of a viral outbreak.

In 1918 the influenza pandemic was one of the most severe pandemics within human history. During the next year the H1N1 virus, also known as the Spanish Flu, according to the CDC infected over 500 million people (one third of the world’s population at the time) and killed an estimated 50 million people worldwide. This TED talk that Gates gave was sparked by the Ebola outbreak in Africa in 2014. Despite affecting many, Ebola was easier to contain due to the short incubation period and how the outbreak was distant from any major city. Those two outbreaks should have been red flags to nations around the world to figure out a plan in the case of another outbreak.

Fast forward 5 years however, and we can see how the COVID-19 outbreak has affected the world despite having an adequate amount of time to plan and prepare for a potential outbreak. This has caused significant global disruption in the stock market, travel and jobs. With a lot of decisions being made by the government on how businesses should operate during an outbreak, employers have started switching towards online work environment alternatives to remain open.

How Your Law Firm Can Operate Online

With your law firm making the switch over to an online work environment, there may be some challenges that you may face. It is important to update your staff on company updates to make sure that everyone is up to date on workday operations. This may include video calls with your staff and company wide text channels so that employees can contact each other.

When it comes to your clients, consider using an online lead and case management software to track your cases. For example, if you’re an eGen client, you can take advantage of eGen’s lead and case management software, eLuminate. eLuminate is a an all in one solution for your lead and case needs. Created in house for our clients, eLuminate manages your pending leads and cases from the point of contact all the way through the date of a hearing. Your intake staff can all have access to the leads and make notes about leads and cases in one spot, which will facilitate remote communication. Additionally, eLuminate can be used to send documents for electronic signature.

As you adapt to your current work environment, consider that eGen can help customize your leads. Leads at eGen are customized to fit the needs of your firm, your relevant geographic target area, and the number of leads your firm may want. If you’re purchasing our Social Security disability leads, eGen can add filters better fit the SSD cases your firm prefers to take.
